Access Control System is one the component of security automation system which allows the free flow of movement to only the authorized users in the premises. The Security access controls the movement of visitors and helps in monitoring each users time spent in a particular area of a premises.
The key component of an Access Control System includes the readers, control panel and the access software on the server which logs all the entry and exit details. The reader authentication types are smart card access, PIN access and a biometric access.
The electronic access control is required primarily at doors/turnstiles, parking gates, elevators or any physical barrier. The readers are commonly configured for ENTRY and the door is controlled by a magnetic lock. The exit is controlled by a push button or a sensor. However if the EXIT has to be controlled, an additional reader is used on the other side of the door or turnstile.
The standalone system applies to small business premises or storage locations. The Network based Access system controls multiple premises/doors and multiple controllers which is controlled by the PC based software. Additional doors can be added in future without major additional cost. This offers central control, flexible permissions and reporting.
